About

Songs of the Goat is a collective of directors and actors brought together through training at the Studio Acting Conservatory of Washington, DC. We strive to create meaningful opportunities for DC-area artists; bring new audiences to the theater; and keep alive the 2,500 year old tradition of exploring themes of fate, order, and justice

through ritualized storytelling.

Mission

Songs of the Goat produces theatre inspired by the Ancient Greek tragedies of Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripedes. We believe in the tradition of community-based ritualized storytelling as a vital tool for social and political bonding, exploring timeless questions of power, justice, and truth for contemporary audiences. The Ancient Greeks invented democracy, competed in the first Olympics, and wrote the first plays as offerings to the Gods and a reminder to society of what happens to those that defy them.

Vision

Over the next few years, Songs of the Goat will establish a strong reputation amongst the independent Washington, DC, theatre scene by consistently producing the very best modern adaptations of Greek tragedy. Our work will be bold and distinctive. We will grow and develop a rehearsal and production culture that will support recently trained DC actors of all backgrounds in their transition from amateur to professional careers. We will seek truth in all aspects of our work.
