About

Songs of the Goat" draws its name from "tragodia" or "goat song," the Greek origin of tragedy – a direct nod to our company's dedication to contemporary tragic narratives. Comprised of artists and theatre makers trained at the Studio Acting Conservatory, we create vital opportunities for DC-area talent. Our mission is to engage new audiences and perpetuate the 2,500-year-old tradition of ritualized storytelling, exploring timeless themes of fate, order, and justice. The Ancient Greeks invented democracy, competed in the first Olympics, and wrote the first plays as offerings to the Gods and a reminder to society of what happens to those that defy them.

Mission

Songs of the Goat produces theatre inspired by Ancient Greek tragedies. We believe in the tradition of community-based ritualized storytelling as a vital tool for social and political bonding, exploring timeless questions of power, justice, and truth for contemporary audiences.

We will grow and develop a rehearsal and production culture that will support recently trained DC actors of all backgrounds in their transition from amateur to professional careers.
